Biography

Master piano technician/tuner, Wayne H. Ferguson, has been plying his craft in Toronto and across Canada for almost 3 decades. Widely considered to be among the very best in the business, Wayne has studied the art of piano tuning and set up with passion and diligence. His former and present client list is a veritable who’s who of the music industry in Canada and Internationally. From Hagood Hardy to The Eagles, Sarah McLachlan to  Sting, David Foster to Stephan Moccio,  Diana Krall to Oscar Peterson and the Toronto Symphony, Wayne’s list of satisfied, repeat customers is testament to his expertise and professionalism.

The long journey to the top of the profession included early stints at George Brown College, University of Western Ontario and the Piano Technicians Guild. In order to continually upgrade and further perfect his skills, Wayne has attended seminars and conventions around the globe and visited all the major piano manufacturer factories worldwide. Currently, Wayne is President of the Canadian Association of Piano Technicians and, as such, coordinates membership and symposiums throughout the country.

One of only a handful of technicians chosen by Yamaha to attend their intensive training course in Japan, his attention to detail landed Wayne in the position of being a preferred tuner for Yamaha Canada, for major events where Yamaha Pianos are used. This extensive list includes Canadian Idol, Toronto Jazz Festival and most concerts at Air Canada Centre and Roy Thompson Hall. One long-term client has referred to him as his “piano’s massage therapist”.

Mr. Ferguson continues to be the piano tuner of choice for most major recording studios in the Toronto area and works exclusively with some of the top film score producers and musicians in the GTA. His extraordinary sense of touch and “feel”, in his tuning methods, are what set him apart in the industry. He is at ease tuning and adjusting any model of piano, from the largest Yamaha concert grand to the smallest upright. Piano technology has advanced rapidly to meet the demands of the digital age and Wayne Ferguson has kept pace with all the latest innovations. On-board automated playing systems, digital interfacing with acoustic instruments and, most recently, digital wireless applications are an integral part of his repertoire.

Administrators and professors at the faculties of music at McGill, The Banff Centre and the University of Toronto, have reaped the benefits of this accomplished veteran’s abilities. Wayne Ferguson has been in the past, and continues to be, the piano tuner/technician of choice for every application and circumstance.
